France was a leader in Rococo style, a reaction against the drama and grandeur of Baroque, embodying a lighter more spacious effect. Colours were more muted and gold was mostly abandoned. Illusionist ceiling paintings were still in vogue as in the Baroque period, but created in a lighter, less crowded way. |
