More imaginative than real, the flatter outlined forms more reminiscent of pre-renaissance style, except for the bright colours, the only thing they had in common with the Impressionists. A purist mentality was a reaction against the corrupting influences of the day, many of the Symbolists favouring primitive subjects. |
